5 Minute Kids is a program for delivering services to students with speech sound disorders by scheduling short, individual drill sessions. This program requires little planning for the professional and minimal time out of the classroom for the student. The student receives therapy in the hallway for designated number of 5 to 10 minute sessions, based on their therapy needs. Our data has shown that the students in the 5-Minute program were discharged from speech in an average of 9.6 months, as compared to 18 months for the traditional group therapy model.
The 5 Minute Kids program:
Offers ideas for intensive drill activities for articulation and phonology students
Increases instructional time in the regular education classroom
Provides opportunities for individualizing goals and services
